Your journey, your choices

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 October 2026

Paper Boat: River Journey is an iPhone puzzle game made by Christoph Weidinger. The game has no separate game account or sign-in. It stores progress locally and uses Apple’s iCloud to sync completed levels and hint credits when available. Advertising and purchases use services provided by Google and Apple.

Game progress and preferences

Completed levels, best move counts, your current puzzle, hint credits, active hints, language, and sound preferences are stored on your device. Your unfinished puzzle, active hint overlay, and preferences remain local. The app does not send your saved puzzles to the developer.

iCloud sync

When iCloud is available, the app uses Apple’s iCloud key-value storage to sync completed level IDs, best move counts, and records of hint credits earned and spent across devices using the same iCloud account. These records include a device-specific sync identifier derived from Apple’s identifier for vendor so that changes from each device can be merged. Existing local progress and unused credits are imported when you first use this version.

This data is used to restore your progress and keep hint balances consistent. It is not used by the developer for advertising or analytics, and it is not sent to a developer-operated server. Apple provides the storage and synchronisation service under Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Play remains available offline; changes sync when iCloud becomes available again. Deleting the app may remove local data but does not necessarily delete data already stored in iCloud. Synced data may return after reinstalling under the same iCloud account. You can manage iCloud and available app-data controls through your Apple Account and device settings. Ad-free purchase restoration is handled separately through Apple’s App Store.

Advertising

The free version uses Google AdMob. Interstitial ads may appear between completed levels. Rewarded ads are optional: you choose to watch one to earn a hint credit.

Google’s advertising SDK may process your IP address and approximate location, device or app identifiers, ad interactions, crash information, and performance data to deliver, measure, and improve advertising and help prevent fraud. Advertising providers may process information under their own policies.

See Google’s Mobile Ads data disclosures and Google’s Privacy Policy for details.

Your advertising choices

The app uses Google’s User Messaging Platform to request consent where required before requesting ads. Where available, Privacy choices on the main menu lets you review or change your choices. The app does not request Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission or access the advertising identifier directly.

Buying Ad-free + unlimited hints removes interstitial ads and rewarded-ad offers and includes unlimited puzzle-step hints. Advertising consent settings are separate from your Apple Account settings.

Purchases

The optional ad-free upgrade is a one-time, non-consumable purchase, not a subscription. Apple processes payment; the app verifies the purchase entitlement to unlock the upgrade. The developer does not receive your payment-card details. Purchase handling is subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Permissions and analytics

The game does not ask for access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or precise location. It includes no separate developer-operated analytics or crash-reporting service. Google’s advertising SDK can process diagnostics as described above.

This website and contacting support

This static website does not set its own cookies, use analytics scripts, or load advertising. It is intended to be hosted on GitHub Pages, whose hosting infrastructure may process technical request information such as IP addresses. See GitHub’s Privacy Statement.

If you email support, your email address, message, and any attachments are used to respond to your request. Please avoid sending passwords, payment details, or other sensitive information. You may contact the developer to request deletion of support correspondence, subject to applicable retention requirements.

Your data choices and rights

You can remove local game data by deleting the app, manage iCloud through your Apple Account and device settings, and review available advertising choices from the menu. Removing the app alone does not necessarily erase synced iCloud data. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information, and to withdraw consent. Contact the developer about support correspondence or questions; Google and Apple provide privacy contacts for data they process. You may also contact your local data-protection authority.

Google, Apple, and the website host operate internationally; information they process may be handled outside your country. Their privacy statements describe their practices and safeguards.
